The Württemberger, Baden-Württemberger or Württemberg is a Warmblood horse breed originating in Germany. They are primarily riding horses, and are selectively bred for dressage and show jumping.
Breed History
The breed registry studbook was founded in 1895, and around 1896, the Marbach stud began concentrating on the original Württemberger type, which was a multi-purpose horse used for both draft and under-saddle work.
Breed characteristics

The best Württemberger horses have excellent temperaments, combining a sensible attitude with lively and free action. These traits may have originally been installed by the use of draft horse and Arabian blood. They are tough and economical to feed when compared to Thoroughbreds.
The ideal Württemberger stands around high, and is usually bay, chestnut, brown, or black in color. They have an average-sized head with a straight profile, a good neck, and prominent withers. Their chest is deep, the shoulders sloping and well-muscled, the back is long and straight and the croup sloping. They have muscular legs with hard, well-formed hooves.
<!--Hiding section, laundry lists of modern horses often sound like free advertising, they can have their own articles written about them if famous enough. Discussing significant foundation horses or assorted animals of great accomplishment in other text is fine, but these laundry list sections of "famous" animals are trouble waiting to happen. Once these lists start, they expand indefinitely until they have dozens of animals listed. Would prefer it be cut or at least moved to talk page
Famous Baden Wurttembergers
Perhaps two of the most famous Baden Wurttembergers are FBW Kennedy and Proton. FBW Kennedy is a 1989 gelding by Tiro (Anglo-Norman) out of Katy (Arabian). He was ridden by Robert Dover in the 2004 Olympics, representing the United States. Proton is Cindy Ishoy's international level Grand Prix horse and also competed in the 2004 Olympics, representing Canada. German rider Monica Theodorescu's international Grand Prix horse Whisper is also a Baden Wurttemberger. The stallion FBW French Kiss, who finished 4th for 5 year olds at the 2003 Bundeshampionate, was also a Baden Wurttemberger, as well as Moses, the 2006 Bundeschampionate winner for 4 year olds.
