Veedersburg is a town in Van Buren Township, Fountain County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, Veedersburg had a population of 2,098.

History

Veedersburg is a newer name for the old town of Chambersburg, which was first settled by early inhabitants Jonathan Birch and John Colvert, on the north fork of Coal Creek in the spring of 1823. It was first located in Cain Township, but became part of the newer township of Van Buren in 1841. Veedersburg was founded in 1871. It was named for one of its founders, Peter S. Veeder. Veedersburg was incorporated as a town in 1872.

As of the 2020 census, Veedersburg had a population of 2,098. The median age was 42.3 years. 22.3% of residents were under the age of 18 and 18.6% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 100.7 males age 18 and over.

There were 885 households in Veedersburg, of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 42.7% were married-couple households, 22.0% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 24.9% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 30.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. of 2010, there were 2,180 people, 878 households, and 605 families living in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 94.8% White, 0.1% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 3.6% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.2% of the population.

There were 878 households, of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 31.1% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.94.

The median age in the town was 39.2 years. 25.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.9% were from 25 to 44; 25.7% were from 45 to 64; and 16.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 48.6% male and 51.4% female.
