St. James City or Saint James City up from 3,784 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Geography
The St. James City CDP occupies the southern half of Pine Island, with the town center situated at the southern end of the island. The community is bordered by San Carlos Bay to the south, by Pine Island Sound to the west, by San Carlos Bay, Matlacha Pass, and Pine Island Creek to the east, and by the community of Pine Island Center to the north. Stringfellow Road (County Road 767) is the main road in the community, running north–south along the center of the island. By road it is to the middle of Cape Coral and to downtown Fort Myers, the Lee county seat.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the St. James City CDP has a total area of , of which are land and , or 12.45%, are water.

2020 census
As of the 2020 census, St. James City had a population of 3,876. The median age was 66.7 years. 4.7% of residents were under the age of 18 and 55.6% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 101.1 males age 18 and over.
52.9% of residents lived in urban areas, while 47.1% lived in rural areas.
There were 2,095 households in St. James City, of which 6.2% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 55.5% were married-couple households, 19.3% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 19.2% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
