Presho is a small city in Lyman County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 472 at the 2020 census.
History
Presho was laid out in 1905, and named in honor of J. S. Presho, a cattleman.

2020 census
As of the 2020 census, Presho had a population of 472. The median age was 45.2 years. 22.5% of residents were under the age of 18 and 22.2% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 107.9 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 102.2 males age 18 and over.
There were 206 households in Presho, of which 20.9% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 38.3% were married-couple households, 25.7% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 29.6% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 45.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

The racial makeup of the city was 95.8% White, 2.4% Native American, 0.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.2% of the population.
There were 232 households, of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 41.4% were non-families. 39.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.14 and the average family size was 2.88.
