Morristown is a town in Hanover Township, Shelby County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.

History

Morristown was platted in 1828 by Samuel Morrison, and named for him. The Morristown post office has been in operation since 1834.

Junction Railroad Depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

2020 census

As of the 2020 census, Morristown had a population of 1,205. The median age was 41.9 years. 22.7% of residents were under the age of 18 and 22.4% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 84.4 males age 18 and over.

0.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas.

There were 460 households in Morristown, of which 31.5% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 43.7% were married-couple households, 18.9% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 31.1% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 31.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. of 2010, there were 1,218 people, 467 households, and 311 families living in the town. The median age in the town was 38 years. 24.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.9% were from 25 to 44; 21.4% were from 45 to 64; and 20.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 45.4% male and 54.6% female.
