Field Marshal Shree Maharaja Sir Mohan Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana (), GCB, GCIE, GBE (23 December 1885 – 6 January 1967) was the prime minister and foreign minister of Nepal from 30 April 1948 until 12 November 1951. He was the last prime minister from the Rana family, which had controlled Nepal for more than a century and reduced the monarchy to a figurehead. The couple had two sons—General Sri Maharajkumar Sharada Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana and General Sri Yuvaraj Bijaya Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana—and six daughters. Mohan Shumsher, as commander-in-chief, sided with the conservative bloc. Padma Shamsher, unable to resist family pressure, resigned on 30 April 1948 and left for India. In place of the suspended fundamental rights, he issued a new ordinance through the Muluki Adda, Sawal Department. When the Rana government refused to yield, the king fled with his son Mahendra to the Indian embassy in Kathmandu on 6 November 1950.

Legacy

The fall of Mohan Shumsher’s government in 1951 brought an end to 104 years of hereditary Rana rule.
