Mahtowa Township ( ) is a township in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 494 as of the 2000 census. The name Mahtowa was derived from a Native American term meaning "bear" or "grass lands".
Interstate 35 serves as a main route in the township.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 24.1 square miles (62.5 km<sup>2</sup>), of which 23.8 square miles (61.7 km<sup>2</sup>) is land and 0.3 square mile (0.9 km<sup>2</sup>) (1.41%) is water.
