Granjeno is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 283 at the 2020 census. Granjeno Cemetery was established in 1872 with burials from both sides of the Rio Grande. By the mid-1930s, the community consisted of several dwellings. The population was estimated at 545 in 1976. Ten years later, that figure had decreased to 450. On January 26, 1993, Granjeno was incorporated as a city.

Granjeno is adjacent to the Anzalduas County Park, which is known for its moss-covered trees. Construction on the nearby Anzalduas International Bridge began in mid-2007 and the bridge became operational in late 2009. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land.

Demographics

Granjeno is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas.

2020 census

As of the 2020 census, Granjeno had a population of 283. The median age was 35.9 years. 24.7% of residents were under the age of 18 and 12.0% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 86.8 males age 18 and over.

92.9% of residents lived in urban areas, while 7.1% lived in rural areas.

There were 89 households in Granjeno, of which 39.3% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 37.1% were married-couple households, 24.7% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 30.3% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 18.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

In addition, South Texas Independent School District operates magnet schools that serve the community.
