Cottonwood is a city in Lyon County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,149 at the 2020 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of , all land. It is on the eastern shore of Cottonwood Lake.
Minnesota State Highway 23 serves as a main route in the city.

As of the 2020 census and the 2022 American Community Survey, there were 1,212 people, 504 households, and 331 families living in the city. The population density was . There were 545 housing units at an average density of . The racial makeup of the city was 95.8% White, 0.3% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 2.5% from other races, and 0.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 504 households, of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.2% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.3% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
