Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne (, literally Cheseaux on Lausanne; ) is a municipality in the district of Lausanne in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is a suburb of the city of Lausanne.
History
Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne is first mentioned in 1228 as Chesaus. Roman remains, in the form of columns and mosaics and dating from the 3rd century AD, have been discovered, as have 5th century Burgundian tombs. The has been a church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, since at least 1174, although the current building dates from 1741.
The first municipal council was elected in 1963. The municipality was part of the old Lausanne District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne became part of the new district of Lausanne.

Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne lies some north-north-west of the centre of the city of Lausanne and north of the shoreline of Lake Geneva. With an elevation of , it is higher than the lake. Formerly an agricultural community in the Gros-de-Vaud, it is now part of the urban agglomeration of Lausanne.
The municipality has an area, , of . Of this area, or 60.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 14.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 24.0% is settled (buildings or roads), or 0.7% is either rivers or lakes.
Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 2.6% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 12.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 7.2%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 1.3%. Out of the forested land, 13.5% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.1% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 47.9% is used for growing crops and 9.6% is pastures, while 2.8% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.

Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne has a population () of . , 20.5% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years (1999–2009) the population has changed at a rate of 29.4%. It has changed at a rate of 22% due to migration and at a rate of 7.6% due to births and deaths.
Most of the population () speaks French (2,626 or 89.4%), with German being second most common (119 or 4.0%) and Portuguese being third (66 or 2.2%). There are 38 people who speak Italian.

Economy
With good motorway connections, Cheseaux has attracted businesses in the construction, furniture and food businesses. It hosts the headquarters of Kudelski SA, a company founded by Stefan Kudelski who invented the Nagra audio recorder.
, there were 1,098 workers who commuted into the municipality and 1,323 workers who commuted away. The municipality is a net exporter of workers, with about 1.2 workers leaving the municipality for every one entering. About 4.2% of the workforce coming into Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne are coming from outside Switzerland. Of the working population, 14.7% used public transportation to get to work, and 70% used a private car.
Road
Cheseaux is situated on the main road (route 5) that, prior to the construction of the Swiss motorway network, linked Lausanne with Échallens, Yverdon, Neuchâtel and points north. It is now located near the A1 and A9 motorways that provide links throughout, and beyond, Switzerland. During the school year, the political district provided pre-school care for a total of 2,648 children of which 1,947 children (73.5%) received subsidized pre-school care. The canton's primary school program requires students to attend for four years. There were 247 students in the municipal primary school program. The obligatory lower secondary school program lasts for six years and there were 214 students in those schools. There were also 2 students who were home schooled or attended another non-traditional school.
