At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 78, based on 11 reviews, which indicates "generally favorable reviews". Entertainment Weekly similarly praised the band's new interpretations of the songs in comparison to their Lillywhite counterparts, saying the album is "such a fascinatingly different take on (mostly) the same material that it almost whets your appetite for a third rendering."
